RACING UP NORTH

The best guide to horse racing in the north and Scotland

The Sport of Kings

HORSE racing in northern England and Scotland has a huge history. From Red Rum and the Cheltenham Gold Cup domination of Michael Dickinson to Night Nurse, Sea Pigeon and the amazing Peter Easterby. The north has seen it and done it. In the north, horse racing today is thriving on the Flat, thanks largely to the exploits of Richard Fahey and Mark Johnston but national hunt racing has struggled to compete with the rich southern yards in recent years.

However, a revival is under way. The success of One For Arthur in the 2017 Grand National and a clutch of genuine talent is helping to put northern jump racing back on the map. Racing Up North will do its bit to highlight and celebrate the best of northern horse racing today, both on the Flat and over jumps.

So saddle up and enjoy…
